About Sydney Tkachuk, M. Ed.

Registered Psychologist

My passion is working alongside adults, adolescents, and children (6+ years) who experience challenges with trauma and neurodivergence.

I have acquired diverse opportunities over several years within the mental health field, including collaborating with various vulnerable populations and individuals on the neurodivergent spectrum. My relevant past experiences involve acting as a behavioural interventionist for young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and aiding youth in their healing journeys from sexual traumas. Additionally, I volunteered as a crisis line operator, providing support and resources to those in emotional distress.

Currently, some of my focus areas as a Registered Psychologist include posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), sexual traumas, ASD, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anger, anxiety, depression, suicidality, and other mental health concerns.

Several challenges I can assist these populations in addressing involve boundaries, communication concerns, relational difficulties, emotion regulation, modifying behavioural habits, and altering thinking patterns.

Ultimately, my primary role is to act as a guide to help you navigate and process through the obstacles of what is both current and past trauma with the goal of improving your daily functioning.

My growth and healing approach to therapy integrates multiple modalities to empower those seeking support to be able to express their authentic selves without the pressure of needing to mask.

In our time together, you have the freedom to be whoever you want, not who you think you’re supposed to be. I value your contributions and what you have to offer, knowing they will be unique for everyone. Consequently, your treatment plan will be tailored to your distinct circumstances.

I utilize various methods to help facilitate change, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), emotion focused therapy (EFT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), somatic therapy, and other evidence-based approaches.

I truly believe in the power of this healing journey and how transformative a process it can be for others to make impactful breakthroughs.

As a therapist who has also participated in therapy personally, I understand how intimidating and overwhelming this experience may be. If I get the privilege to be your therapist, I will strive to create an environment where you are able to feel safe. Fostering a foundation of safety is highly important to me to help you feel comfortable in being vulnerable.

Trust is essential for establishing security in a therapeutic environment as well. The relationship you build with me must contain an element of trust to be able to let your guard down. Therefore, I greatly appreciate a strong therapeutic connection beginning to form from the initial session. This bond is often part of your first step towards healing.

I am convinced that all individuals have the potential to grow and evolve. Wherever you are on your healing journey, I am ready to collaborate alongside you at your current stage.

Recognizing that healing is complex as it does not follow a linear process. I want you to know that you will not be alone in the unpredictability that accompanies this challenge. We will push through the struggles together to establish some sense of stability.

The distance you have come to reaching this point of reconciliation is a testament to your remarkable resilience already. If I am privileged enough to work with you, I want to let you know that I am proud of you for taking this leap with me. I will be a pillar of support for you on your mental health journey towards healing and wellness.
