Life can be contradictory as it’s where we find our passion, meaning, and joy, yet through living we also experience our greatest sorrows. Early in my life, I was touched by trauma that is still felt to this day. Unfortunately, this is not unique as we all experience negative events that echo through our lives. Family bonds, friendships, relationships, and most importantly feelings towards oneself are often tested. Dealing with these feelings on our own may give us a sense of strength, however, true strength is facing and overcoming the feelings that are causing pain, anger, hurt, etc.
If we are sick, we take steps to heal ourselves. If we break a bone, we take steps to heal ourselves. If we scrape a knee, we take steps to heal ourselves. However, too often we don’t address the pain others can’t see. Let’s take the first step together in learning how to heal. Depending on your needs we may use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic, and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) to facilitate your healing journey.
Beyond therapeutic approaches, the relationship between you and your therapist is crucial. When thinking of this relationship, empathy, trust, and compassion come to mind. You are the expert on your own life and only through a safe and open environment can we identify and develop the strengths you’ll need to re-claim your confidence, optimism, and resilience.
