About Hailey Dufresne
Registered Psychologist
MA (Counselling Psychology)
I specialize in supporting adult and youth (10+) clients with their mental health and well-being so they can cope better and thrive in life.
I possess four years of professional experience in the mental health field, with two years dedicated to implementing behavioural and mental health programs within educational settings, and an additional two years serving as a psychologist in a not-for-profit organization.
I specialize in supporting youth and young adults facing challenges related to life transitions, gender identity, anxiety, depression, boundaries, healthy relationships, strategies to cope, and more.
My therapeutic approach begins with establishing a strong, trusting connection with each client, as I believe that a solid foundation is essential for effective therapy. I prioritize person-centered therapy, ensuring that each session is tailored to the individual’s needs. Once a safe and trusting environment is created, I collaborate with clients to determine the most suitable therapeutic strategies for their unique circumstances. I incorporate a variety of evidence-based approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, solution-focused techniques, and strength-based care, adapting my methods to best address the issues at hand.
My therapeutic approach is centered on the client, emphasizing a warm, safe, and trusting environment where individuals can freely explore their unique needs and aspirations for change.
I believe that beneath every behaviour lies a feeling, and beneath each feeling is an underlying need. By addressing these needs rather than merely focusing on the behaviour, we can effectively tackle the root causes of challenges, fostering deeper healing and growth.
Sessions include collaborating with my clients to facilitate meaningful changes in their lives, offering encouragement and support. My goal is to be a reliable support system while providing psychoeducation that empowers clients to become their own therapists.
I remain available as a resource for navigating life’s challenges, especially those they may not feel equipped to face alone.I also value integrating clients’ cultural backgrounds into our sessions when appropriate, recognizing that culture, family of origin, and historical experiences play a vital role in shaping experiences and perspectives.
I believe that every client’s unique background and identity play a crucial role in their therapeutic journey, and I strive to integrate this understanding into my practice.
I primarily work with individual (adult and youth 10+) clients addressing a range of concerns such as attachment and relationship issues, boundaries, identity development, gender dysphoria, anxiety, depression, and self-harm. My approach is informed by a commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment where clients feel empowered to explore their experiences while drawing on evidence-based modalities.
I also have a strong background in 2SLGBTQ+ issues and a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, which enhances my ability to provide culturally sensitive care.
My motivation and passion for being a psychologist stem from a deep commitment to supporting individuals in their journey toward mental well-being and personal growth.
Witnessing the transformative power of therapy inspires me daily, as I believe that everyone has the potential to overcome challenges and lead fulfilling lives. I am particularly drawn to working with youth and young adults, as I recognize the profound impact that early interventions can have on shaping their futures. The opportunity to create a safe space for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings, develop thriving skills, and foster resilience is incredibly fulfilling. I am dedicated to helping others navigate their unique struggles, and I find immense joy in being a catalyst for positive change in their lives.
My personal interests are diverse and continually evolving.
I have a strong appreciation for the outdoors and nature, particularly the mountains. Sports play a significant role in my life; I enjoy both participating in and watching various sports, and I dedicate every Sunday to watching football with my husband. I cherish quality time with friends and family, yet I equally value moments of solitude at home, where I can curl up on the couch with a captivating romantic fantasy novel, with my cats and a cup of coffee. Winter is my favorite season! I find joy in its unique beauty and atmosphere, and also love the opportunity to wear cozy sweaters.
I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward healing and helping you cultivate a life where you can truly thrive. Your experiences and feelings are important, and I am here to provide guidance and understanding as we work together toward your goals.
