About Carly Bruce, MC

I am a Clinical Counsellor who specializes in working with adults and couples on concerns regarding sex, sexuality, identity, relationships and more.

I have dedicated myself to learning about the 2SLGTBQIA+ community, kink, sex toys, sexual health concerns, sexual trauma, and other sex and relationship topics. This constant quest for further competency has resulted in me becoming increasingly passionate about helping people embrace their identity as well as their connection to their body and sexuality.

I recognize how difficult it can be to navigate your relationship with yourself and with any partners you may have in a society that tends to give overwhelmingly contradictory messages about sex and relationships. I am here to help you dig through all that messaging to find out what truly resonates with you and to help you explore that.

My therapeutic approach is person-centered and relational, highlighting the importance of your input and establishing a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust and understanding. I will start by gathering information about you, your goals, your concerns, and your support system. Once I know more about your journey to therapy then we can work to come up with a plan on how to progress toward living the life you want to be living.

Whether you are an individual, couple, or have multiple partners, I am happy to help you.

I incorporate a variety of modalities including Gottman, Emotion Focused Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness and pair it all with my additional psychoeducation in areas of kink, sexual health, sex toys, and ethical non-monogamous relationships.

I am sex-positive, kink-informed, trauma-informed, and am ready to help dismantle any shame, stigma, or misinformation you may be encountering.

I know that many people are not comfortable talking about sex or what may be going wrong in their relationship with their partner(s), especially with a stranger, and can understand how big of a step it is to even seek out a therapist for these types of concerns. I would be honoured to be able to be a part of this journey with you. I do frequently use humour, when it’s appropriate to do so, and am happy to pull from my bin of demo sex toys for additional visual aid and education.

This may be your first time ever saying certain things out loud to another individual and I appreciate the weight of what that can mean to someone. Know that I am not here to judge you nor dictate what you should or shouldn’t enjoy when it comes to your own sex life, I am here to help you figure out what it all means for you and how to meaningfully connect with it.

While sexual concerns are a large part of the work I do, I do also work with couples (and other relationship dynamics) and individuals on various other concerns as well.

I can help if you feel like you are having the same argument over and over again and getting nowhere, you feel as if you’re stuck in a routine, you have mismatched libidos/sexual interests, or that the level of communication just leaves something to be desired. We can work as a team to establish new patterns that breathe life back into your relationship and your connection with one another.

I have borne witness to real change with my clients when it comes to connecting with their partners, dismantling old ideas about what sex “should be”, growing beyond past traumas, and learning to embrace their sexual journey.

The dedication, strength, and determination of will that I get to help grow in my clients has always been incredibly inspirational to me. Being the one to walk next to my clients and see them grow into the strong, resilient, confident people that they are is a deep honour that I will always hold near to my heart.

When I’m not in the therapy space I can be found dancing, learning, enjoying a meal with friends, or hanging out with my cat (her name is Norra). I am a proud member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and continue to be an advocate for it. I consider myself to be a bit of an ambivert – I love connecting with people and getting out of the house to try new things, but I also adore just lazing around at home and staying cozy.

I am incredibly proud of the life I continue to create for myself – one of finding contentment in the slow moments, cherishing the connections with those I hold close in my life, being the “crazy sex lady” that all my friends feel comfortable asking about sex, and getting to do the work I’ve always wanted to do.
