Lori-Ann Huot

Certified Grief Specialist

Fees: $100/hour plus GST. *NOT covered under insurance plans.

I am a compassionate and experienced grief therapist, dedicated to working through and fostering understanding of the complexities of loss with clients.

I have studied for years under the world-renowned death educator, author, and grief counsellor, Dr. Alan Wolfelt. My experience as a grief specialist spans over a decade where I have supported clients experiencing a broad range of grief and loss experiences including death/loss of life, terminal illness, suicide loss, loss of a child, loss of a baby, miscarriage, stillbirth, infertility, loss of a pet, relationship loss, divorce or separation, loss of a job, loss of identity, loss of purpose, and more.

I work with individuals and couples grieving the loss of a loved one or experiencing other profound losses, and I support and guide them through their grief.

Whether grieving the death of a loved one, grieving a stigmatized loss (suicide or miscarriage/stillbirth) or less recognized losses (loss of a pet, relationship loss or job loss), I’m committed to helping my clients integrate their losses into their lives, facilitating a path forward to lead full, purposeful lives.

My approach acknowledges the importance of challenging societal norms and promoting a more inclusive and understanding atmosphere for grief.

I provide a safe, non-judgemental and compassionate space for clients to explore their experience with loss and their resulting bereavement. Using a client-centered companioning approach, I help my clients better understand their grief, find meaningful ways to mourn and inspire healing while changing and challenging many of the societal stigmas, beliefs and expectations that influence grief.

My journey in grief counseling is rooted in my own personal experiences.

After losing my mother suddenly at the age of 32 and navigating the loss of two baby girls through miscarriage, I was led to find purpose in my pain by starting my journey to becoming a grief counsellor. This first-hand experience with grief gives me a unique perspective and a deep level of empathy and understanding, which can be invaluable when helping my clients work through their own grief.

Specialty training and a diverse background.

I am a graduate of the Death & Grief Studies Program through the Center for Loss & Life Transition in Fort Collins, Colorado and have been trained and mentored by world-renowned grief expert Dr. Alan Wolfelt. This specialty training has guided me over my 12 years of dedicated experience guiding hundreds of clients through the intricate process of healing from loss.

In addition to working with Onyx in a private practice setting, I am also the Grief & Bereavement Navigator with the Hospice Society of Camrose & District, offering counselling to those impacted by grief of end of life or death of loved one.
